Interracial Cougar Fever

Now I know why they call hot looking old broads "cougars." Look at this face. She is not only beautiful, she means business! When I started this blog a few months ago I targeted it to women. But guess who wrote in first (with a few exceptions)? Young twenty-something men, mostly brothers and Asians. I still get e-mails, IMs, Wall posts, and Twitters, all from guys who could (dare I say) numerically are young enough to be my own children. And it’s not just online. At the Shag Paper Party last week, (See my Facebook page for awesome pics.) I had a young brother who couldn’t be more than 25 years old hard selling me on what he had to offer an older woman like myself. (Hey buddy, thanks for calling me “old” by the way) Then I started to realize that it’s not just me.

A California friend told me that she is constantly getting hit on by the young Latin men in her neighborhood. And these guys were really young. She is 57 (but looks 40) and is getting hit on by men in their 20s and 30s. She came to me distraught. What should she do? The interracial thing is no big deal for her. (In fact, she was a trial blazer there: a white woman married to an Asian man for 35 years.) It’s just that she doesn’t know what to do with all the attention, and even though she is still a hot piece of ass at almost 60, she is concerned there must be an ulterior motive. Money? Sex? I told her the only way to really tell is to not sleep with them and see if they stick around (pretty much the test for any man).

As women we tend to go to the insecure place. “I am too old for him so he must want me for money, connections, sex only, a car, a place to live, lunch money…” But I am not sure that is what is going on here. I think it’s just plain and simple: the cougar is in. My mother says that before her generation (the Boomers) “older women” (defined as over 30) had to wear only black head to toe and stay at home (save the occasional trip to the market or childcare-related duties). They didn’t keep themselves in good shape a lot of the time because, well, why should they? They weren’t goin’ nowhere. Plus a lot of women didn’t even know they could exercise until my generation (Gen X).

All this is to say that we old broads look better than previous generations. Hell, because of the obesity epidemic, a lot of us old broads look better than the younger generation too. So why Cougar Fever? Because we still got it baby! So why this rash of “interracial” Cougar Fever? I think that if you are open to older women, you are more likely to be open to different races as well. So women: count your cubs as a blessing, not a curse; and put them to work making you happy!

Now (thankfully) I have many women readers and I know some of you have great interracial cougar stories. Don’t hold back! Let’s hear it. And all you cute young brothers of any color, please feel free to chime in too.

It's funny you wrote a post on this because my mom came home the other day and was talking about this. I just told her to roll with it. It wasn't an interracial fest mind you, but many young brothers hit on her all the time. Where I live there is definitely not a shortage of older men and younger women. You do what you do!
