Alicia Keys and Sad White Boys, Unthinkable!

Ms. Keys rubbing crotch, oddlyI recently caught a look at Alicia Keys’s Unthinkable video.  I know you are sayin’ “Sister where the hell have you been, that has been out for weeks?” True, true - but chill b-haches - I just got my blog a couple weeks ago.  Now I hear all the time on my Blog, Facebook, Twitter - that “interracial dating is no big deal,” not that they do it or anything, but it’s accepted, right?

Wrong.

For weeks after Alicia Keys released her song Unthinkable there was article after article talking about this “racy” video.  Now if anyone knows racy, it's Racy JC so I watched the video.  In fact, I watched it three times because I figured that I must be missing something.  There was a bunch of longing looks between Alicia and a really pathetic sad looking white guy that aside from looking like a pitiful love-struck puppy was also taking the occasional beat down - but what was so racy?

In the end, I was only able to find a couple instances in the video where something could even remotely be construed as racy.  First, for a reason unbeknownst to me Ms. Keys kept stroking her crotch.  No judgments sister.  Whatever does it for you.  I guess that could be considered racy in some circles.  Second, “the almost kiss.”  There was a point toward the video’s end where – and you won’t believe this - a white guy leaned in an almost kissed a black woman.  Perish the thought.  It wasn’t even a kiss people!  A kiss isn’t even NC-17, it’s G-rated stuff and “almost kiss” – what’s that rated?  They have racy-ier stuff in The Little Mermaid!

The truth is what people really found “racy” about Alicia Keys’s video was that is was about the subject of interracial dating. Think about it - 145 years after the end of slavery, 45 years after the end of Jim Crow, 43 years after Loving vs. Virginia – and we still aren’t “over it.”  Ms. Key’s video got so much attention not because the video itself was so “racy,” but because people in this country still have a lot of issues with color and interracial dating.  Hat’s off to Ms. Key’s for bringing attention to the issue.

All is not lost.  I think we are workin’ on it, gettin’ there.  And I will be here everyday to help with any interracial entanglements no matter what race of culture you might belong to.  We have got a long way to go, before we get that elusive societal acceptance for interracial dating, but I can’t complain.  It’s keeping me relevant, busy, and hopefully I will make a couple dollars when my book comes out this winter - and that’s important because as they said in the Shuffle “hoes gotta eat too.”

Dear JC,

You're right! There is nothing "racy" about that video and hats off to you for noticing she stroked her crotch I was too busy looking at Fine @ss Chad Michell Murry the "white guy" the plays Lucas on One Tree Hill that was in the video with her. :D Whoooo, he's sexy! Ok back to the subject...I just wanted to give my opinion. BTW, LOVE your Blog!!!
GG
P.S. here's a link to a picture of what he usually looks like and not like the weak guy he had to play in the video. http://www.bigshinyrobot.com/reviews/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/chad-michael-murray.jpg

Thanks so much for commenting on my blog. I haven't heard anyone call the video in question "racy," but I have heard people discuss it a great deal. Seeing as though Alicia Keys in biracial, is it really "unthinkable" for her to date a White guy? I mean, her mother is White! It's no big deal. But I definitely dig the concept of the video. As a Black woman, I have dated outside my race yet I feel way more comfortable with Black men. It's sad but true... I can't wait til your book comes out!
